Tempurpedic Classic Mattress
The TempurPedic Classic mattress was one of the first products released by Tempur-Pedic. This foam mattress started a revolution in the mattress industry. The foam, first created by NASA to be used in space, was redesigned to allow for more comfort in an Earth-based bedroom. The specific molecular design is a secret, for obvious reasons, but its effects have been displayed across the country. One would have to live under a rock to have not seen the famous commercial depicting a person jumping on the mattress, while a glass of wine, placed on the other side, remains stationary.
This unique aspect of the mattress, that motion in one area of the bed doesn’t transfer to another, makes this bed incredibly desirable to many couples, as opposed to beds that used to be all the rage, like the waterbed. The material is also, too many, much more comfortable than a traditional mattress, or, even worse, pullout mattresses or futons.
To meet recent complaints, Tempur-Pedic has released adjustable versions of their bed, such as the hugely successful Ergo Adjustable system, similar to the popular Flexabed. The base of the bed is the adjustable part. This has a two-fold benefit. It allows all those who previously purchased a bed to keep the mattress, which is the only way they could have sold an adjustable system to previous customers. It also results in a more gradual transition between positions as one change the position of the base with the handy remote. To satisfy even more people, they also sell leg extenders to increase the length of the legs and the height of the bed, for those who like to store things under their beds. An additional benefit to an adjustable bed is that it can aid in lumbar extension, providing relief to a great many consumers, particularly those above the age of forty.
Tempur-Pedic sells this mattress in a variety of sizes, from twin all the way to king. This provides just about every possible size desired by the vast majority of the public. It wouldn’t make economic sense, in other words, to provide the more obscure sizes asked for by less than 5% of the population.
A significant downside to this bed, though, is the very high price, nearly $2,000. There are many competing companies that see them for anywhere from 800 to $1,000. Although Tempur-Pedic still maintains its leading position in the market, this issue places a wedge between prospective consumers, separating them into those with the necessary disposable income, and those without.
Tempur-Pedic has created a wave of change in the mattress market since its debut, leading to a shift toward memory foam, a similar material to that in Tempur-Pedic mattresses. In addition, as many satisfied customers can attest to, it is hardly a simple sleeping pad. It is a place to rest, a place to read, and a place to enjoy an evening with the person you love most. Moreover, the TempurPedic Classic mattress is the bed that started it all.
